Groan

I really do love my denomination, the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. One of the “distinctives” of the ARP (which, if I’m not mistaken, diverges somewhat from the ARP historically — we used to practice exclusivity psalmody, for instance) is a “big tent” approach to worship. Granted, I don’t like the idea of tearing one another apart over the issue (and the ARP is implementing a new directory of worship — ARP’s did not historically adopt the Westminster Assembly’s Directory of Public Worship — pending approval by our courts), but this was a bit too much. We receive calendars every year (planning books they are called), and each year there is a list of liturgical days and colors. Apparently, there was a mistake this past year and so a correct was send out via email. Here it is:

I’m sorry, and I know I’m in the minority, but that seems a bit of a burden to me. :(

I am thankful, though, that there is liberty in this area, and these things are not “required.” Needless to say, I won’t be worried about having blue and violet colors displayed this Lord’s Day. :)

One Response to “Groan”

Glad to hear that Tim. I myself am not a fan of the Liturgical Calender. Seems quite Romish to me. Though I do use the Revised Common Lectionary when I preach I find the “Seasons” to be limiting and forced. What I mean by that is just to say why can I not preach about Christ’s birth, death and resurrection in August? Or about his Kingship in March? Seems all a bit silly to me.
